What Is Anti-Plagiarism And How It Works?

Passing anti-plagiarism or checking the uniqueness of the text has long been an important criterion for evaluating a diploma. Despite this, few people clearly understand what it is before reviewing, so let’s find out.

Characteristics of text checking Antiplagiat – “a system for automatic checking of texts for borrowing from public network resources” (written on antiplagiat.ru).

Antiplagiarism divides the text into borrowed (plagiarism) and unique.

Borrowing can vary – plagiarism, excerpt, paraphrase, compilation.
Plagiarism – other people’s text passes as their own.
Paraphrase (or “rewriting”) – re -speaking someone else’s text in your own words (by changing words and expressions) without changing the meaning of the text.
Compilation – writing an article based on other people’s research or other people’s works without independent processing of resources, i.e. a veiled way of using other people’s ideas under their own work.
Citation (or “white” citation) – an exact extract from the text with attribution (in the form of a footnote).

Educational institutions have established acceptable boundaries for the uniqueness (originality) of the text of the graduation work (from 40% to 80%) to gain admission to the defense.

Text uniqueness – the ratio of the number of unique elements (words, phrases) to all text elements, expressed as a percentage and varying from 0 (complete lack of originality) to 100% (completely unique text).
